Re: Frame-by-frame playback - reverse?

There is a rising tide of demand for basic video analysis tools like this. Maybe it's time to invest in buffering back a couple of keyframes. N'est pas?

Re: Frame-by-frame forward/reverse

"you'd have to buffer all those intermediate frames, which would be a huge performance hit"

Really? A few hundred frames? That would tax the system? Then how does Adobe Premiere do it so well?

This is one good way for an upstart media player to knock VLC off its throne.

Re: Recording problem

I got tired of waiting for one of Jean-Baptiste's cryptic and necrotic replies. After re-ripping from the blu-ray using a 3-year newer version of MakeMKV, now VLC outputs an MKV file and it plays perfectly. Thanks anyway, JB.

Re: Recording problem

Using the red record button results in different output formats with different input files, even though all of the input files are mkv-containers derived from blu-rays. In one case, the output is an mkv file that is apparently an identical copy of the input. With another mkv input file that also pla...

Re: Is there a reason ...

Rémi, Thank you for that clarification, and I apologize for not being clear in my question: Why does this file produce an error message--s16l is unsupported--that appears to conflict with the information you've given? And why is vlc then unable to play the audio? Is it a different problem from what ...

Re: Is there a reason ...

Many blu-rays published by Criterion use s16l for the main soundtrack for feature films. When ripped with MakeMKV with just default settings, the main sound track will not play. Instead, vlc issues the following message: No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format &quo...

Is there a reason ...

that VLC does not decode LPCM audio, such as s16l used on Criterion blu-rays? Is there an external codec that can be employed?

Re: s16l audio format won't play - help me please!

Jean-Baptiste, what file are you asking for? We can't send the mkv files because they're way too large. I have the same trouble with another Criterion blu-ray ripped with MakeMKV.
