Re: Screen resoultion makes controls and menu too small

that link to imgur is useless. You can not see the entire screen shot. there are no instructions. and, on vlc 3.0.11 in windows 10, checking that DPI (something) box does NOTHING. On older versions, there was a ZOOM parameter in the VLC RC (settings) file. But, VLC changed it back every time VLC was...

Re: no display of time when advancing

@Hitchhiker - thanks for that advice. It worked, but after comparing the "vanilla" files with my files, it turns out it is just one simple setting: ON SCREEN DISPLAY, found in the preferences "Subtitles/OSD" section. Odd that what I'm asking be displayed (the "T" hotkey...

Re: no display of time when advancing

I know it should not be a matter of version. It worked in the past on 2.2.26.

no display of time when advancing

I run VLC 2.2.6. Recently, VLC stopped displaying the time when (1) I advance a video (long time, short time, doesn't matter) and (2) when I hit the "T" hotkey (display POSITION/TIME). I have rousted through settings and find nothing that controls the time display or lack thereof. Anyone h...

2. there are ways to move forward/backward to an EXACT time. but, automating it is gonna be complicated. Check out the "jump to time" option in the VIEW"" menu. It's a little complicated and I did not find any explanation anywhere.

Re: PLEASE! I need help controlling VLC programmatically! Desperately!

got it!!! however, I am very confused about what you want, but it certainliy looks like I've found what you need. all the following assumes that you are going to use Autohotkey for your solution. It's the only way I know--and want to know--how to program window automation. so, 1. Firstly, you say yo...

Re: PLEASE! I need help controlling VLC programmatically! Desperately!

AHK can not detect when an AD is playing. Essentially, I don't want can, unless, like some television show from way back, the signal includes the information that an ad is starting/stopping. I remember I had--think I still have it--a vcr that recognized commercials. But, it only recognized them upon...

Re: PLEASE! I need help controlling VLC programmatically! Desperately!

btw. I have thousands of lines of much more complex stuff for VLC, but the forum doesn't allow me to post much. 1. yes, SaveVLCPlaylist.ahk is not documented or included here. It automates RESAVING the playlist to the same file or a new file. 2. yes, some of the variables are defined here. this is a...

Re: PLEASE! I need help controlling VLC programmatically! Desperately!

ha ha! good luck editting videos. VLC does nothing except allow you to record/stop. And splicing out makes individual files and I can't figure out how to combine them. I tried learning AVIDEMUX, but it SO complicated--basically for a professional film editor--that I gave up. And recording with VLC i...

Re: apply large PlayList font (just fyi)

this is what I do. However, I found that it is problematic with versions after 2.2.6. So, I have not upgraded VLC beyond 2.2.6.

Does anyone successfully use this workaround with versions after 2.2.6?

Re: PLEASE! I need help controlling VLC programmatically! Desperately!

And, yes. There is No way to HARD stop VLC that I know of. The Browser_stop and Browser_Pause functions shown in the hotkeys menu don't do anything. It looks like that is because WINDOWS does not support these two functions. Autohotkey, for example, only has: Media_Next Next Track Media_Prev Previou...

Re: PLEASE! I need help controlling VLC programmatically! Desperately!

I am not a user of AutoIt. I use Autohotkey. It is my UNDERSTANDING--not knowledge--that AutoHotkey (AHK) is much more robust. I can also tell you it has a very active user forum. As a programmer of some 50 years, I can also tell you it is A GREAT BIG PAIN THE NECK TO LEARN. It appears to be a congl...

Re: How to set the large fonts for playlist?

I don't have to change the file to Read only to get the .INI to preserve zoom=4. But, it doesn't do anything for me. Probably because I am running 2.2.6. With 2.2.6, the Playlist font size was not greatly reduced. Basically, I will not upgrade beyond 2.2.6 until I CAN SEE THE PLAYLIST WITHOUT USING ...

Re: Looking to Contribute

I went to IRC. And found the documentation pointing to Wiki. at https://wiki.videolan.org/VLC_command-line_help/ one finds the following: " --input-title-format=<string> Change title according to current media This option allows you to set the title according to what's being played<br>$a: Artis...

Re: Looking to Contribute

You say the documentation is out of date. All well and good. But, in the meantime, is there any place one can mention specific problems with the documentation? For example, I found that in the Input/Codecs section of the help, all the possible values for the "change title according to current m...

Re: Playlist font too small

I agree wholeheartedly. just went from 2.2.6 to 3.0.3 (or whatever the hell version it was, because I don't remember because I instantly reverted, seeing a playlist I could not read.) There's no reason to not use the fonts a user has setup , for example the MENU font... oh, that's right... people us...

Make PLAYLIST fileid available / RESAVE CURENT PLAYLIST

I would like to be able to know the fileid of the current active playlist. I would also need to be able to programtically have access to that fileid. This would mean the implementation could be in any of the following ways: 1. Add the FULL playlist path to the Name of the window in the CAPTION BAR (...

Re: Feature Request: Save Relative Path in playlist

I resolve this problem when on my home network as follows: 1. Create playlist (on "master" or main computer) 2. On another computer, use MAP NETWORK DRIVE to access the drive the playlist is on AS THE SAME DRIVE LETTER as it was on the "master" computer. (Yes, this will probably ...

Re: Create button quit shutdown computer after playlist finish

I disagree. I don't think VLC should have the power to shutdown my computer. This shutdown can be very implemented with the use of AutoHotkey. A script running could determine when VLC is no longer active and shutdown at that point. Yes, AutoHotkey has the power to shutdown a computer. (It actually ...

Re: Add an option to autosave current playlist on exit

I would like to second this request. I think it is badly needly. I can not count the number of times I have accidentally closed VLC without saving the playlist. And, of course, I guess it would be best if it were a preference one could set.

Re: dollar sign in filename ignored by Windows

It looks like this behavior is documented, but I would never have found it on my own. The subject: http://wiki.videolan.org/Documentation:Play_HowTo/Format_String shows how dollar signs are used with meta data. Here is the item: $<any other char> : <any other char> (for example: $$ transforms to $)

Re: dollar sign in filename ignored by Windows

I tried yet again, and got it this time. Apparently the "$" must best escaped. So, I used "...\my documents\$$\test4.mp4" and the file went into the "$" folder. As the dollar sign is a valid DOS filename character, this surprises me. It would be nice if this behavior we...

I just tried again, this time specifying output as: "c:\docuemnts and settings\joey\my documents\\$\test2.mp4.

Same result. Placed file directly in "my documents" folder.

dollar sign in filename ignored by Windows

I am converting .FLV files to .MP4. I have the following folder: C:\documents and settings\joey\my documents\$ I have no problems using this folder and it's files, even though it's name contains a "$" (dollar sign). However, VLC does not handle an outfille filename with a $. When I do the ...
