yup it fixed it for me! this thread can be locked now i think

I'm having the same problem - but it only happens with VLC, not with other players such as Quicktime or MPEG Streamclip.

if i wasn't clear in my original post it only happens with VLC for me too.

the other user fix doesn't seem to work for me either.

Nope...still got the issue.

@hobbesdream: so the 10.9.1 update didn't help? unfortunately no, still happens. I've also tried more video file formats and they all seem to cause the error as well. Fortunately everything plays just fine, is there some way I could just hide that dialog box? It's really only annoying, nothing seri...

I was running VLC 2.0.8 on OS 10.8 and all was smooth. Then I update to Mavericks (10.9) I start having errors with most every video I open (have only tried mkv and avi so far) regarding "Open GL is not supported on your Mac: Your Mac lacks Quartz Extreme acceleration..." yet the videos st...
