For me, windows xp.
VLC "Portable" allows to change instantly the associated file icons.

Nevertheless, in VLC "Installed" I have to restart the system to showing the changes. Why??

I've tried to playback FLV (flash) videos with high resolution (1920x1080), but VLC freezes the video after starting.

The same flv videos works nice in MPC-HC player.

But, portable packages (.7z and .zip) are available from the official VLC web: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html

Confirmed. So far my solution is to clean up the Registry through Ccleaner, and reboot.

Hi forum. This always happens when I save the latest Portable folder version and remove the previous version. Cannot play media files themselves. Despite trying to choose the vlc.exe from its portable folder, this cannot be marked as a program to "Open with". Only works dragging the media ...

Reset my preferences, this worked for VLC remember the last Open Folder... (Ctrl+F)

In my case, the video freezes on the first frame, it happens only in some AVI videos.
But I can play right those same videos from the Media Player Classic Home Cinema, and Windows Media Player 9.
OS: winxp sp2.

Already tried the wiki tutorial for video output module (first item).
