I am having this same problem. No, these network options don't work either. This is infuriating. The disk worked in the old version, but not the new.

Wait: I did an advanced open file & chose the .dat file in the MPEGAV folder. That worked.

I have a disc like this. It was working with VLC, but there have been some updates and now it does not work any more. Very frustrating.

The Perian website says they are retiring it.
