To go back to 12.4 you need to uninstall anything that says "AMD" in Add\Remove Programs or Programs and Features on Win7 \ Vista. Then download 12.4 from AMD and install. It is not necessary to manually roll back the drivers in device manager. Also BTW I never have even heard back from AM...

Uhm...If I roll back the GPU drivers to Catalyst 12.4 -- VLC works just fine.

Yep -- WMP works fine for me as well; however I still believe it to be a problem with the drivers as Catalyst 12.4 works absolutely fine with VLC.

Bug filed with AMD\ATI support. This is a bug in the 12.6 and 12.7 beta catalyst drivers. Fix is to disable gpu acceleration or just roll back to catalyst 12.4 as of right now.
