I use both ... most people might not notice anymore nowadays, but the CPU load caused by VLC is also tremendously higher than that of MPC. Not sure if that's really necessary.

I don't think anybody ever claimed that this was fundamentally unreconciliable. Neither did I claim someone did ;) ... but I got the impression that most people asking for the feature aren't aware of that specific detail and therefore can't comprehend wth is the actual problem, while other players ...

But the problem remains DVD and BD menus are an essential feature. And that's a lot more important than some somewhat obscure video filters. TBH, I have never tried to play a DVD/BD in any other player than VLC so far. I recently did, and it turned out that e.g. Media Player Classic has no problems...

Now that I see it, I agree with you. It would be nice if the developers added this support. But I guess that userfriendly is not a key thought process. You nailed it ;) This has been a continuous struggle for years, then there were the plugins, then they didn't work anymore because of general restr...

Unfortunately, the snapshot file naming is still messy in VLC 2.4.4 as of today. There's still no variable simply returning the actual file name, no matter what. $N and $t (apparently) provide exactly the same , often nonsensical media name. Unticking "sequential numbering" returns complet...

Why not just using the gesture none for this essential functionality?!
Combined with the left button for gestures, mousedown —> no movement —> mouseup
would equate exactly to the desired action: a simple mouse click.

So quite possibly I was on the right track here ...
