AFAIK the thumbnails are generated by windowsOS, VLC doesn't have anything to do with it. Your first image has mpg videos what is recognized fine by windows but the second image has brrip files that I doubt it knows them. But before upgrading everything was fine. There were thumbnails everywhere or...

I just updated the VLC to 2.0.6. It was like this before:
