Possible to pause/resume an RTSP VoD stream on the server?

Hi, I've been assigned the following task: Serve a VoD stream, have many clients connect to it and while each is playing on its own, have the server pause all streams. I've broken the task down to this: -Set up a VLM instance (telnet interface) and create a new VoD object -Use any MPEG video as inpu...

Get screen:// input and stream to STB (transcode to MPEG-2)

Hi, I was wondering if this is possible: -Open a VLC session (telnet or normal interface) -Open "screen://" as input -Stream this to a Set Top Box like Amino When you choose "Stream/Save" while using "screen://" as input, what format/codec is used? If a STB needs can on...

Re: "Connection to host lost" when using the telnet interface

I've tried on two computers.. one is running Windows XP and the other is running Windows Server 2003. I've also tried using the following command line: "vlc.exe --intf telnet --telnet-password pass" (in case the "-I" wasn't working) but this caused the same problem... I remember ...

"Connection to host lost" when using the telnet interface

Hi, I just downloaded VLC and tried running it with the telnet interface: "vlc.exe -I telnet --telnet-password pass" and then accessing it using either putty or the Windows telnet command: "telnet localhost 4212" (4212 is the default port) and I get the following output: "Pa...

recommendations for large VoD situations

Hi, I'm using VLC as a network streamer. I've collected some content and have tested streaming but my network is getting way too much traffic. Some videos halt and other network requests (such as http) take a long time or sometimes do not reach their destination. The problem might be network design,...

Schedule bug (playback begins a minute and a half later)

Hi,

I'm using the telnet interface to schedule a broadcast... unfortunately, playback begins about a minute and a half (maybe a minute and a half exactly) after its scheduled time... is this a known bug?

Browser plugin, video in background, other html foreground

Is it possible to embed the vlc browser plugin in such a way that we can position it at the same spot as other html content (i.e. images, text, etc) and have the video displayed as background to the html content? I am testing with a video and an image using CSS absolute positioning. When I try it li...

"no picture" message in Mozilla plugin

I've noticed there is a "(no picture)" message displayed in the mozilla plugin just before a video has finished pre-loading. Is there a way to get rid of this message? (just have a black screen until the video shows?)

"top"

both top and tload show an increase in memory but it is freed once in a while. The strange thing is that top and tload don't agree on cpu usage. Tload shows 97% usage and top shows 20%. I believe top because if cpu was at 97%, the video would have probably looked choppy. In the end, vlc worked well ...

I'm having a similar problem (maybe the same?)

I am streaming the same video file to 3 destinations on my local network (I've tried using UDP and also RTSP VoD). I'm using mpeg-2 files instead of a capture card, so I thought it would be good for the VLC developers to read this. When I send the same file through 3 different streams, I get 100% cp...

Is it possible to loop a VoD stream?

I have a vod stream that I've created in VLC:

new test vod enabled
setup test input "C:\\test.mpg"

then I try "setup test loop" but when I check the object "show test", the loop flag still says "no".

Is it possible to loop Video On Demand streams?

I copied the dvdread folder to /usr/include/ and it stopped complaining. But now it can't find development headers for libfaad. But I'm using the precompiled libraries... how can I tell the compiler to ignore the development headers and use the precompiled libraries?

configure: error: cannot find libdvdread headers

I get this error when compiling VLC on Cygwin: checking dvdread/dvd_reader.h presence... no checking for dvdread/dvd_reader.h... no configure: error: cannot find libdvdread headers I thought everything needed to compile VLC on cygwin came with the VLC trunk and the precompiled libraries. I've tried ...
