I had an idea and uninstalled Irfranview to remove the associations as well as vlc 2.2.1 and i reinstalled the older version player of 2.1.1.

Its fixed.

Been reading more... was suggested that as avi files can all be coded differently, I download:
K-Lite Codec Pack 11.05 (Full)

If that doesnt work all I can think of is to convert the file to mpeg or mk4 (dont want quality reduced) . but i cant do this for every file from now on!

Oh i can see the suffixes.. but cant change them.
Properties>General also ONLY changes the file name title too NOT the suffix.

Please... WHERE do I change it??
I'm in the folder on my drive but i can only change the NAME of the files, NOT the SUFFIX??

I would still like to know why it has suddenly changed to record the files as asfs when its always recorded as wmv???

so... nobody knows????? All i can do is to convert my .tp to .mpeg then play the mpeg in vlc, then record and i get an mpeg. but i really to get the wmvs like VLC used to to.

For some reason (maybe due the latest upgrade) its only recording my .tp converted to .wmv files as .asf and not .wmv like it used to do.

Any ideas?? I cant afford $60 for a new asf converter.

(When I record off a dvd its perfect and saves as an .mpg)_
