Re: What is "Original" stereo mode?

Original mode is Surround. It does not make much sense inside the Stereo mode menu.

Thank you. It is now April 2024, six years after the OP. The "Stereo Original" option is still under the "Stereo" menu. Will this ever be fixed?

Re: VLC shows black window but appears to be playing video

Interestingly, the QT community reports this bug as having been fixed some time ago (https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-108407), though that is not my experience so far. Am I doing anything wrong?

Re: VLC shows black window but appears to be playing video

I'm in the same boat. Thanks for reporting this. This happens with all sorts of video: I am experiencing this when doing DVD and BluRay playback etc. I was going crazy for a while, thinking that I may have done something to screw it up. Interestingly, rendering on a different sink (i.e. Chromecast) ...

Suggestions on how to install VLC 3.0.17 or newer

The VLC version that comes from apt is 3.0.16, which doesn't do Chromecast streaming/broadcasting/rendering. The 3.0.17 SNAP-ed version can not be made to do blu-ray playback. Compiling 3.0.17 from SC doesn't work for me. The question is then, how can I install a 3.0.17 or newer on my Ubuntu compute...

SNAP-ed VLC and Blu-Ray playback

Did anyone manage to make the SNAP-ed version of VLC play Blu Ray discs?

Re: VLC doesn't display track names for CDs

Try this: https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=155775 Thank you. As I was trying to explain, metadata display works just fine when starting payback via the "Media/Open Disc" menu(!) , yet it does not work when playback happens as a result of inserting the CD via the autopla...

VLC doesn't display track names for CDs

Currently running VLC 3.0.17.3 on Ubuntu 22.04 (...or somethin'). I have "start VLC on CD audio insertion" (see picture below). VLC starts playback just fine upon inserting an audio CD, however it doesn't display tracks or any other metadata. Interestingly, metadata display happens just fi...

Try VLC 3.0.17.x: that fixed rendering onto Chromecast for yours truly (https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.ph ... 51#p531851).

Re: Ubuntu: issues installing VLC from source code

Update: I ended up adding the following lines to /etc/ld.so.conf: /usr/local/lib /usr/local /usr and that did it. Thanks for the help! Now, if any of these lines is not strictly required, I would appreciate your letting me know: I'd feel better knowing I have the minimal working version of /etc/ld.s...

Re: Repo direct install vs. SNAPed: no rendering to Chromecast

The mystery has been cleared: the SNAP-ed version of VLC is among the latest (3.0. 17 .x), which does indeed do broadcasting to Chromecast, while the VLC version that comes via apt is an older one (3.0. 16 .x), which does not do broadcasting to Chromecast (at least not in my Chromecast environment)....

Re: Ubuntu: issues installing VLC from source code

Thank you! Getting closer! :) My /etc/ld.so.conf file contains only one line, namely "include /etc/ld.so.conf.d/*.conf," so it looks like I need to add .. what? What exactly do I need to add? Here are what I see as the main choices: 1. include /usr/local 2. include /usr/local/*.conf 3. inc...

Ubuntu: issues installing VLC from source code

The SNAP-ed version doesn't do it for me, and installing using apt installs a crippled VLC version (see https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=160838 ). My only chance was to do an install from source code. For the most part that went well, except one major problem. Here's my installati...

Re: Repo direct install vs. SNAPed: no rendering to Chromecast

Well, I ended up compiling and installing VLC from source code, and that one works fine. There are other issues with the installation/compilation process, but I will open a different thread for that (https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=160849).

Repo direct install vs. SNAPed: no rendering to Chromecast

I installed VLC directly from the repo : sudo apt install vlc but rendering on Chromecasts is not working. Note that there is no problem discovering the Chromecasts, it's just that clicking on "Playback/Renderer" and choosing a Chromecast from the dropdown list doesn't do anything. Interes...

Re: VLC 3.0.0 - Manually set Java location for Blu-Ray menus?

Thank you for going to the trouble of figuring it out. At this point, my time doesn't permit me to undertake this debugging exercise, so I'll just declare myself content with watching Blu-Ray movies w/o the menus.

Is there a final resolution on this matter? Or is it that we should just not bother running Java-based menus on BR disks?

Re: HTTPS Music Streaming

It should be able to open all tracks, and it should automatically advance to the next one. Check the 'History' tab.
Yes, indeed, if the .m3u list makes its way into History, things work fine. Where exactly is the History kept please, just so I can make sure it's hydrated properly?

Re: HTTPS Music Streaming

It should be able to open all tracks, and it should automatically advance to the next one. The way I launch playback of the .m3u list is a bit funny: the .m3u file is being kept locally on my phone, and when I press on it my file manager (Root Explorer) asks what application should open it. I then ...

Excellent! https streaming works fine now! Good job! Unfortunately, as mentioned before, VLC would only play the first track in an .m3u playlist. When will that be fixed please?
