ive noticed this too. if columbo is on itv. in SD it's 4:3. in HD it's 16:9 with bars at the side.
i just assumed that hd was always broadcast in 16:9.

try not sending the bug to vlc, then you don't need to delete prefs.

it plays dreambox streams out of sync from the start and has done for 6mnths or so :( it's only a little but occurs 100% of the time. i've uploaded files before. play any of them and you should have the same problem. directx gives me perfect fullscreen playback on primary or secondary monitor, 1080i yadif 2x, no hardware acceleration. opengl is better than direct3d.
if you can get unchoppy vid with a maximized window then you could set the window size to 1920x1080 and remove window decoratations

no paraolympic streams and a few itv regions maybe a broken, but pretty much all of them are there.

can increase network cache from 1000 to 1500-2000
can go to access modules/http and tick auto-reconnect

basically the playlists are for sat channels broadcast in the uk, for the pay tv channels a subscription is needed. The streams come from the sat box, in my case a dreambox.

all versions except 2.10 (SD and HD sync issues) work ok with dm800/8000/800sr4

same here, i can usually fix by changing vid output to opengl.

here's a few. disable network/clock sync. increase network cache, dont use yadif x2 on hd source, use opengl if fullscreen on second monitor. don't use post processing. don't use hardware accel. could try vlc 2.0.2
