I also updated from VLC 2.1.1 (which worked perfectly for me) to 2.1.2

Now I often have distortions during playback
and some DVDs are not playing at all.

I hope this will be fixed soon.

Info: Late 2012 27" iMac, Mountain Lion (latest version)

I've also wasted much time trying to get VLC to play BDs. Then I bought Macgo Mac Blu-ray Player for Mac (was on offer on Christmas, licenses for 4 Macs for about £20/$30). No problems at all.

You will then be able to decode BLU-Ray discs with aacs encryption but NOT BD+.

Will BD+ be possible in the future?
(Does anyone know if Macgo's "Blu-ray Player.app" can decode BD+?)

Since I would call myself a beginner (but I'm very interested in blu ray on Mac)

I have updated to VLC 2.0.1 Mac and it's still not possible to play BDs
(similar errors as some weeks ago it seems).
Can this be fixed now or is it (still) impossible?

There are still important problems and a code path missing in libaacs.

Is this a read performance issue with the BD-R? (Maybe a Mac driver problem.)

No, I have the same problem with VLC - but blu-rays play fine with Mac Blu-ray Player (test version).

After reading this thread (not understanding everything ) does

@seantnichols are you trying to open the blu ray via the gui? it doesn't work currently. open the terminal and type: /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/VLC bluray:///Volumes/500GBUSB/Movies/Blu-ray/XMEN_FIRST_CLASS/ this should work. I tried it via terminal: Last login: Sun Feb 26 17:44:03 on tty...
