The quotes were necessary for the path and not the option. Unless you want to type it as c:\progra~1\videolan\vlc\vlc.exe dvd://d: which requires no quotes. The other possibility is that d: is not the DVD drive??? Actually, I have 2 optical drives, D: and F:, both of which will play DVDs, but I hav...

I have been under the impression AnyDVD circumvented regions and CSS coding for direct copying purposes? Assuming XP this should not circumvent the auto pop up allowing player selection in an auto play situation. However Windows 9x did not have this option. Try "C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\v...

Auto-Playing DVDs

Hi All!! Its been a while since I've written in here, though I still continue to enjoy VLC to the fullest. I do have a question though, and, if its answered (FAQs, etc), I haven't found it: What's a good command-line string to make a DVD auto-start VLC? I have an umbrella program, "AnyDVD,"...

Which shouldn't matter, since any Divx/Xvid should play regardless. [...] And, to the moment, they do. What I'm looking for, if possible, is: 1. To understand when/how new or updated codecs are included in the player, and, 2. A way for users to expand beyond the basics, as they deem necessary, and ...

As far as codec packs go you must lead a very sheltered or charmed life. I have run across people that love ffdshow, but personally I hate it. Perhaps it's all in what you are trying to do and how well it fits in with being the proper tool for the job. Simple example: DivX supports XviD but if you ...

Re: How can I change the Xvid decoder on VLC

Can I change another Xvid decoder on VLC? (without using the build-in one) You can't. Ok folks... To call the question: Is there a way to get VLC to access external codecs, or are we limited to what comes in the plugins directory? If the latter, then what provisions are made for codec improvements ...

Oops! I forgot to add that I'm running VLC and Firefox on Windows XP Pro.
I'm running VLC in Firefox 1.0.5.3 as well, but on W2000. VLC 0.8.5 bombed on me there as well, so I backed-off to VLC 0.8.4a, and the problem went away. Still a few glitches yet in VLC 0.8.5, I think...

Ya that kinda sorta works but QT keeps wanting to steal the extensions back and you need to edit the associations so this doesn't happen any more. This may be accomplished through the use of Windows Explorer, Folder Options, File Types. Still when you use the plug in the extensions are hard coded i...

If you have Quicktime installed, regardless of how you have the MIME settings configured in both, Quicktime presumes it has the lead in most formats it handles, and passes that override configuration to the browser (Firefox, in my case...). Hello ! It is possible to stream a video to multicast using tcp not udp protocol ? :?: That would seem to depend on the method of transmission. Re: BSODs

I still randomly get BSODs. I updated all my drivers to the latest versions, same for DirectX. All I can do is use v.0.8.1, as any later version gives me BSODs. What CPU and OS are you using? When you get a BSoD, is it the quick-reboot kind, or the one that hangs on the blue screen? If the latter, ...
