Unassign what exactly? It doesn't matter what space is assigned to. It doesn't get trapped by VLC because Accessibility (full keyboard access) invokes the action instead. Sorry to resurrect this old thread. For me, space bar is lowering the volume because I have "Full Keyboard Access" enabled. This causes tab to move between all GUI controls. In OS X (and Windows too) hitting the space bar will trigger the selected control. VLC isn't overriding that, and IM...
