I tried minimising Firestorm, but it did not help.

Re: Jerky playback with lost frames

its likely that SL and VLC are using the integrated GPU to decode frames at the same time and its likely too much for the GPU to handle. In fact, SL on its own is too much for the GPU. I'm getting less than 10 fps and it's jerky. Often it freezes for several seconds at a time. I had an AMD FirePro,...

Re: Jerky playback with lost frames

GPU resources are not infinite. I'm sure what answer you expect here. Yes. Maybe Linux/X11 does not implement any kind of "fair" scheduling of GPU resources, so that any process is "free" to hog and starve other processes for resources? How can I find out if the problem is (a) d...

Re: Jerky playback with lost frames

The graphics is Intel integrated i915.
there is your answer.
integrated graphics share CPU/MEM recources.
But there seem to be enough CPU/MEM resources, and I've tried adjusting process priority. So I'm thinking the contention is for some other, graphics-related, resource.

Re: Jerky playback with lost frames

The jerkiness stops if I shut down the very graphics-intensive Second Life viewer Firestorm. Can applications compete for "GPU time" like they compete for CPU time?

Jerky playback with lost frames

Hi all, I'm using Linux Mint 19.3 (Tricia) with Cinnamon. My VLC version is 3.0.8. The CPU is Intel Core i7-2720QM Quad Core. The graphics is Intel integrated i915. My problem is jerky playback. The statistics reports lost frames. The CPU is more than 50% idle. Anything that can be done to mitigate ...

Re: Heavy green pixellation

Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback , and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com if it's too long. I will do this if necessary, if you can't reproduce the error yourself using the sample: Also upload a short sample of a problematic fil...

Heavy green pixellation

Hi all, I'm using VLC media player version 3.0.6, and I'm getting corruption, in the form of heavy green pixellation. This happens with "Mulvacoded" season 1 episode 1 of "The Man in the High Castle". The only video output option that works is Direct3D9. I'm getting the green pix...

Re: Direct2D output Upgrading VLC from 2.2.6 to 3.0.1

With the GDI option, there is still corruption if you resize the window. Only Direct2D allowed scaling without artifacts/corruption.

Re: Direct2D output Upgrading VLC from 2.2.6 to 3.0.1

Have there been any new developments pertaining to this matter? I took out the defective graphics card (AMD/ATI) from my laptop, which allowed the integrated (Intel) graphics to work, and so, the problem is resolved as far as I'm concerned. Still, I think it was a mistake to remove the Direct2D outp...

Re: Direct2D output Upgrading VLC from 2.2.6 to 3.0.1

I am forced to use the "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" due to hardware problems Here lies the problem. I know it is an important factor in the problem, but it is not the only one. Despite the "Standard VGA", it worked fine in v2.2.6 with Direct2D, but not in 3.0.1. I don't under...

Re: Direct2D output Upgrading VLC from 2.2.6 to 3.0.1

I found this thread, which seems to refer to the same problem I'm having (see OP above for details):

"Weird color artifacts".
That thread is from 31 Jan 2017.

Direct2D output Upgrading VLC from 2.2.6 to 3.0.1

Greetings to All! Yesterday, I upgraded to the Windows 64-bit version 3.0.1 of VLC, from version 2.2.6. I did this because the time counter would hang and stop updating at some point before the file actually ended. This problem first occurred with the 720p YIFY release of "Schindler's List"...

Playing a file with separate audio?

Is it possible to use the VLC player to play an .mkv video file with a separate audio file in the form of a .dts file? It seems I can only open one of them at a time.

I installed 2.0.0-rc1-20120130-0203 Twoflower, and the problem was solved... until today. Now it's back again: subtitles disappearing when paused. What shall I do?

Re: Subtitles disappear when paused

It will be fixed in 1.2.0
When will 1.2.0 be released? I'm having great trouble with this same issue (disappearing subtitles).
