Thanks i tried the nightly build and it seems to have resolved the issue.

it is set to built in output no spdif connection on an imac using the inbuilt speakers as i do not own other ones Spdif is unchecked , no headphones are plugged in etc ,audio is enabled in prefs but i am not getting sound

I Am not getting sound in VLC 1.1.12 as has been the case since the release date i have tried multiple movies and multiple players such as VLC 0.86 ,Quicktime etc and all files play successfully in those, it is annoying as i like to keep upto date with my software though no action has been taken as ...
