Will it be updated to support newer versions of VLC like the soon to be released 3.x?

I just downloaded 2.0.6, installed, tried to launch vlc, it opened nothing, it slowly ate all virtual ram and my pc locked up rebooted, uninstalled. wondered WTF happened because never had anything like that happen. re-downloaded, re-installed, same issue... but i managed to kill the task first this...
