What does the post processing filter actually do?

Hello,

Just curious as to what the post processing filter actually does to the image. I find it difficult to notice a difference between the various levels 1-6.

Pixel doubling for 720p videos on 1440p monitor?

I'm planning on buying a 1440p monitor soon and I watch a lot of 720p video. Does/will VLC support pixel doubling? It would be great to have a crisp image rather than the blurriness that other upscaling methods inevitably introduce.
