Re: VLC player won't properly display .ass or change metadat

VLC won't change the metadata but they are not needed to automatically select a file they have to have the same filename not the same "title" which is set inside the file and just displayed. You can also manually play a subtitle file using Video->Subtitle->Open file when playing the file o...

You can begin with verbose logs :

Tools->Messages (or Ctrl+m) set verbosity to 2 and start playback.

Re: Video stops playing at a specific point

With the same EOF error? As I said the symptom is quite similar to a broken file. The nightly build should show you additionnal traces in that case.
I can see another possible case of error but without the file it will be hard to test.

Re: Video stops playing at a specific point

Your file may be corrupted and vlc doesn't know how to recover. You should try a nightly build. There is already a fix that may help vlc to behave more correctly http://nightlies.videolan.org.

Re: Error with mkv files

Do you use GPU decoding? no You should really consider it since most GPU allow that and it lowers the CPU burden a lot. If you can't/don't want you can try to force ffmpeg threads to 1. In any case you can also try to increase file-caching. tried 300/600/1000ms without success. Did you restart VLC ...

You can either test with another audio output or try a nightly build of 2.1 (http://nightlies.videolan.org/) and test the new waveout module.

Re: Error with mkv files

The possible causes are numerous... it could be a contrib issue or other changes. The best way to check is to give verbose logs. In my case I play mkvs without stuttering using an up to date vlc 2.1

Re: Good settings for .mkv playback

x264 is an encoder so you're surely not using it for playback. Your video codec surely is H264 so you are either using GPU decoding or ffmpeg. In any case, the easiest way to have better performances is to enable the GPU decoding Don't forget to restart vlc each time you save the preferences or they...

Re: VLC plays the audio not the video

I need the beginning of the logs. Be sure to open the log window before starting playback.
It also could help the debug, if you have a way to provide the file or some part of if (like the 20 first MB).

VLC doesn't use external codec packs.

Could you open Tool->Messages set verbosity to 2, start playback then paste the logs?

The channel problem is a bug in the demux and should be fixed soon.
For the codec, according to the traces it really is PCM 24 LE.

Re: VLC freezes when moving playback location

This can happen when seeking without cues (ie seek index) vlc will read the whole file until the wanted time and it can take a bunch of time if the file is big and/or on an slow support like USB key...
Showing the logs could help (tools->messages->set verbosity to 2 then start the playback).

Re: Ordered chapters in MKV files not working properly.

Hi,

It's probably a bug in vlc... could you please share the verbose logs? Tools->Messages set verbosity to 2 then start playback (from a stopped state not a paused one). If you have a way to share the files, it would help me to debug faster.
