I am sorry, I have not. I have posted the issue to the FreeBSD-questions mailing list but the conclusion from there, which I tend to agree to, is that this is an issue with vlc and threads. I have been trying to analyze the source code and I have glanced in particular at the threads parts of it and ...

Not one reply?

Am I the only one realizing the potential of using vlc as the engine to display video over the LAN?

General memory leak when streaming udp?

Is there a general memory leak when streaming video over udp? Using vlc to stream video over udp breaks on FreeBSD, Fedora, Red Hat, Windows and Suse on different hardware. The behaviour is similar, streaming starts, memory leaks away and when memory is low enough vlc stops. On the *nix variants the...

Dear Forum, I was just wondering, if you run this package on slack and fires up vlc with a playlist of tv shows that total some 8 hours like so: vlc playlist.m3u --sout '#transcode{acodec=mpga,ab=192}:std{access=udp,mux=,dst=239.255.255.254}' ..do you have the same phenomena as on FreeBSD/Fedora tha...

Hello again Dear Forum, I am not entirely certain, but I think that vlc behaves in the same way even for the windows port. Streaming to udp using the vlc 0.8.5 also stops at approximately the same points as streaming with the FreeBSD5.5, FreeBSD6.2 and the Fedora Core2.6-18. This is more of a feelin...

Here's an interesting follow-up... I have two machines running FreeBSD, one version 6.2 and one version 5.5. Both behave very similar when running vlc. I took the machine that ran FreeBSD5.5 (see the http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?t=28799 thread) with almost the same behaviour as the FreeBS...

Let me correct the previous post, there is a memory behaviour as if there is a memory leak. The memory slowly gets eaten up down to a minimum level where it stays until the crash _or_ until the message 'Killed' ends the application. This behavior is almost the same for 2 different versions on two di...

I have verified that it's not a memory issue.

I have also (separately from above) changed the dynamic mapping for the libpthread library to libthr with no change in behaviour.

I have a feeling that this issue has to do with the way vlc handles threads. It's just a hunch though.

Mapping vlc to another library has no effect. The core dump appears in exactly the same way. I used the below library: [vlc] libpthread.so.1 libthr.so.1 libpthread.so libthr.so ldd /usr/local/bin/vlc /usr/local/bin/vlc: libiconv.so.3 => /usr/local/lib/libiconv.so.3 (0x28080000) libvlc.so.0 => /usr/l...

Hi and thanks for your reply, I don't know if I'm doing this correctly but I run it in gdp by issuing : gdb --args vlc -vvv --loop playlist.m3u --sout '#transcode{acodec=mpga,vb=2048,ab=192}:standard{access=udp,mux=ts,dst=239.255.255.255}' I then start it by typing run at the gdb prompt. Dear Forum, FreeBSD 6.2 running vlc 0.9.0-svn Grishenko. runs from shell with: vlc -vvv --loop playlist.m3u --sout '#transcode{acodec=mpga,vb=2048,ab=192}:standard{access=udp,mux=ts,dst=239.255.255.255}' Starts playing fine but after a couple of hours it _always_ stops with the dreaded 'Killed' foll...

FReeBSD5.5 pthread_testcancel in 0.9.0-svn Grishenko

Dear Forum, I have a coredump that is reproducable on FreeBSD 5.5 STABLE with 0.9.0-svn Grishenko. All ports updated. Looks to be a pthread issue? Vlc links to following: tinca# ldd /usr/local/bin/vlc /usr/local/bin/vlc: libiconv.so.3 => /usr/local/lib/libiconv.so.3 (0x28077000) libvlc.so.0 => /usr/...

FreeBSD: vlc in free(): error: modified (chunk-) pointer

Dear Forum, FreeBSD 6.2 and vlc-0.8.5_7. It rocks, I tell you. The new http interface triggers a bug that most likely is FreeBSD related but I'll post it here anyway in case anyone knows a quick fix for it. When running "vlc -I http" and using a browser to add a file, clicking 'play' for t...

The BSODs/crashes described in this thread are too real for one of the machines on my LAN here. I am posting this in an attempt to narrow it down.
