I agree. I also use google as a solution to this problem. Firefox has a link to it in "about".

My lag is gone in 3.0.1. So lag and the mysterious exit-crash have been fixed.

Re: VLC 3.0 slow start

The lag I describe is when the file is opened in an existing instance of vlc.

Re: VLC 3.0 slow start

I also experience a lag (not that long, though, but it takes a sec before it starts playing). If I drag and drop the file there is no lag.

Re: VLC 3.0.0 doesn't close properly

The output setting has not impact on my crashes. In disabled mode I also get them. It happens without playing anything. Open vlc then close vlc gives a crash.

Edit: Right now I can trigger the crash everytime I don't play anything. If I start a video and then close vlc then no crash.

I'm also seeing weird behavior in 2.2.3. VLC is crashing everytime I try to watch a live stream from my network camera.

Re: Frame-stepping forwards and backwards

The frames are inside the GPU. So you would need to keep 20 frames (btw, why 20 and not 40 or 60) of 6MB each in an extra memory pool on the CPU side and do one or two extra copying of ALL frames in VLC? You realize the impact in performance, no? So, the only way is to seek back quickly. And that's...

On repeat: don't play invalid files

When the playlist is set on repeat: I would like very much an option to exclude invalid files/urls from being played over and over and over again.

Re: VLC 2.1.1 - CPU load 100% when playing tagged MKV files

It also fails to play here. VLC hangs with high cpu usage.

Memory usage rises until vlc crashes.

Re: How enable GPU decoding?

Finally, VLC version 2.1.1 seems to have fixed the playback stall-go-stall-go problem. The GPU crashes seem to have stopped too. Well, I still get random crashes, but it is able to play avi files now. I have some mp4/264 files that it messes up, though. So I will just continue to have it disabled :-)

Re: 2.1.0 CRASHES when HW Decoding Acceleration is Enabled

There is a fix (workarround) to VLC 2.1.0 release:

Tools / Preferences / Show settings = All / Video /Output modules / Direct3D / Use hardware blending support = UNCHECK
Right now I'm using 2.1.1. That does nothing. My vlc still dies.

I see the same. VLC keeps crashing. It seems to be tied to hardware acceleration. Win7/64bit/HD4000.
