Re: Capture audio only

I am definitely seeing it in Linux. Go to View / Playlist. The left-hand panel is titled "Media Browser". Click on "Devices" to open the dropdown list. On my machine, the second item is "Audio capture". Yeah :D thank you. Now I'll have to figure it out how to use it th...

Re: Capture audio only

That option is present in all versions since 1.1.0.
How come it is not visible on windows nor on linux?

And would I be able to do that through libvlc? I am using it with vlcj.

Re: Capture audio only

Yes it is. There is even a dedicated category as playlist / Devices / Audio.
You think something like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AP0w5xBUTko on Windows, but this was the older version of VLC, In this newest that option does not exists.

Can you please tell me how to do it because I don't see anything like "playlist / Devices / Audio"?

Capture audio only

Is it possible to capture only audio with VLC? I can capture video (/dev/video0) + audio (alsa://hw:0,0) and I can capture video only. But I can't capture only audio.

EDIT:

What I need is an audio from mic, not from some file.

Re: A few transcoding/stream questions (camera, desktop, aud

Thank you, do you know the release date of official VLC 1.2? So the desktop issue is simply because Apple removed API on Lion? Is it possible for VLC 1.2 to use some different or custom API for desktop support? And 3. question: Why do I only see iSight camera in VLC on Mac and no other connected cam...

A few transcoding/stream questions (camera, desktop, audio)

Don't know if I should posted this on libvlc forum but it seems to me that this is the better place since it has to do with Mac OS X specifics. I've been using libvlc thorugh vlcj and finished 2/3 of my project (acctually, I finished everything on Windows, adjusted everything to work on Linux aswel ...

Re: No sound streaming from the webcam

Can someone confirm that there is no way of getting a sound in VLC 1.1.12.

Is there any way of getting sound when streaming (to file)? It is acceptable for me to only record video and at the same, with second VLC instance audio only.

Re: [SOLVED] second webcam: Device or resource busy

I don't know if you are still watching this thread. I've spent the past week researching the issue of multiple webcams on the same usb controller (with most motherboards having one single controller for the 4-8 usb connectors). The amount of usb bandwidth a webcam needs is dependent on the resoluti...

Re: [Ubuntu, vlcj] Multiple camera streams fails (v4l2)

If you don't like my explanation, you're free to invent your own . The fact remains that the kernel returns EBUSY and VLC cannot do anything about that. It's not that I don't like yours explanation but for a while I've been on this forum and although I got here very useful informations, every time ...

Re: [Ubuntu, vlcj] Multiple camera streams fails (v4l2)

"Device or resource busy" is an error from the Linux kernel that the device is already being streamed by another program. Most probably you're trying to stream the same camera multiple times. This is never going to work. Hey. This sure is not the problem because I tried all of this with V...

[SOLVED] [Ubuntu, vlcj] Multiple camera streams fails (v4l2)

I am using vlcj library for my project and finished developing on Windows. Now I am upgrading it for Linux usage. And now I see that libvlc is acting better on Windows that on Linux. Eg. On windows I can run multiple cameras at once and stream into files (dshow://). Now on Linux I use v4l2:// and on...

Re: How does VLC/libVLC recognizes connected cameras?

I am not sure which combox you mean. On Linux, the Qt4 UI capture dialog is lame, it just lists /dev/video* entries. Combo-boxes when I go on capture/convert media. VLC for Mac OS X http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/7932/macy.th.png VLC for Windows (Windows are run from virtual machine here) http:...

Re: How does VLC/libVLC recognizes connected cameras?

Hmm, lets clarify. The guy that wrote the media discoverer API has left the project. So it is not unlikely that the API has problems (bugs, awkwardness, limitations...). I understand. Now regarding video capture specifically, there is a dedicated service discovery plug-in ("v4l") based on...

Re: How does VLC/libVLC recognizes connected cameras?

If I understood correctly, the person who developed this is no longer working on it?

But how is it possible on VLC to discover all cameras if it is only implemented for linux?
If I run VLC on MAC it lists me iSight camera. If I run it on Windows (through virtual machine) I got the list as well.

How does VLC/libVLC recognizes connected cameras?

I've been using VLCJ (which uses libVLC). Now I need to list available cameras and it has to be cross platform.
What is the way that VLC/libVLC is doing this? When I go to capture mode it lists available devices and I would like to do the same.

Re: libVLC cannot add a new stream (only audio as result)

That is what I've been telling to you, I didn't change my code. The container is .flv and vcodec is FLV1. If it is not supported then how come I can run my program after computer restart and generate fully normal .flv file with both audio and video. And when I stop the program I have to restart comp...

libVLC cannot add a new stream (only audio as result)

Hi, I've been using libVLC through java interface VLCJ. I made a camera recorder and since yesterday it is acting different and strange and I haven't change a bit of code. If I start recording/encoding I get this error from libVLC: [04ea2d0c] main input error: Invalid PCR value in ES_OUT_SET_(GROUP_...

Re: Get a snapshot without saving it on disk

I don't know. The only way you'll know if it's possible is if you do it.
Can I at least manipulate with some options. E.g. to take a snapshot with lower quality or this is the only option with taking snapshots?

Re: Get a snapshot without saving it on disk

Both JPEG and PNG are compressed formats, so it takes some CPU to encode the snapshot picture. On the other hand, unless your hardware really sucks or is way overloaded, writing the file to disk should be quite fast. Well I have a new iMac (4GB memory and i5 quad core 2.5GHz) and develop this in Wi...

Re: Get a snapshot without saving it on disk

Snapshot to memory is not currently implemented, and you're welcome to provide a patch. That being said, I suspect that the slowness you seem to observe comes as much from encoding the snapshot (to JPEG?), than from saving it to disk. While I am taking all those snapshots, pictures are being saved ...

Get a snapshot without saving it on disk

Hello, in my project I use Xuggle ( http://www.xuggle.com/xuggler/ ) (java library for video manipulating). I'm making my own recorder so I need images from camera and encode them into a container to make a video. I use java VLCJ library to access libVLC to take snapshots. Problem is that it saves e...

Re: libVLC parameters [camera (video+sound) and desktop capt

Because there is no list of codecs. It's just run-time probing.
If it is run-time, then it shouldn't be offering me this if I don't have it on my computer?
