Re: Best format for captured video

Assuming the card is supported by Linux in VLC you select file/open capture device If you are using an s-video connection you should get video by just hitting play. For a composite connection select Advanced options and set input (the 2nd line down) to 1 (s-video is blank or 0). Hit OK and then pres...

Re: AVI files broken after recording

Is there any reason why every one of these files should be reported as broken? Actually VLC does not appear to truncate them, just appears not to know how long they are. The audio also appears to be out of synch and if the file is converted (say to an ogg file) it seems to go okay but the audio sync...

Re: AVI files broken after recording

Just a thought - on a laptop like mine (Dell 630m- Centrino 1.86 w 2 Gb Ram) could the use of KDE desktop effects be having an impact on the integrity of the file?

Thanks

Re: Composite RCA or S-Video via VLC

I had this problem with a USB Capture card in Linux because the audio component of the card was not recognised. The solution for me was to get an RCA - 3.5cm cable and plug it into the microphone socket of my laptop. http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?q=rca+to+3.5mm+adapter&hl=en&prmd=...

AVI files broken after recording

Hi I have started my project of converting my old VHS footage to DVD and I have hit a roadblock. The first job I did was a 25 minute video. Attempts to use the convert/save function were a failure - the saved file froze, was out of sync and the image blurred (It may be lack of computer power tbh as ...

Re: Best format for captured video

To update this If I use "open capture device" and assign video format 1 within the advanced settings, viewing the input is now a breeze. My problem however is that when I record the footage (with the record button) I get a high quality result but the resulting avi file is huge (about 30 se...

Re: Best format for captured video

Thanks I haven't got my linux box in front of me right now but I saw this earlier today http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=55974 This would suggest I can set the video input to composite within the GUI and if I have correctly identified the sound input and launch both at the same tim...

Re: Best format for captured video

By way of update, I have now been able to get sound with the open capture device dialog. I use a c-media usb audio card instead of the empia one.The device name is alsa://plughw:1,0 (or 2,0 depending upon how the 2 cards have been detected) If I run the following command: v4l2-ctl -d /dev/video0 -i ...

Re: Best format for captured video

Hi thanks for the reply. I need to burn the footage to DVD so MPEG2 seems to be right. I assume this is the Mpeg2 +MPGA option? Audio - that is the main issue now, By setting to composite the video stream is great. The sound is great too - but only if I select it (a c-media usb device) in the device...

Best format for captured video

Hi - new member here I'm about to embark on a project to convert my old camcorder footage from VHS to DVD. Using Kubuntu 11.10 . My research indicates VLC is the best Linux application to do this. I have a USB Video capture card (Empia 2861 chip) which works (almost) OOTB - If I set it to composite ...
