Is there any way to make vlc play a slideshow of photos from a folder on a DLNA server?

Re: Passthrough with Sony TV

Sony android TVs had a problem with the android API to pass DTS through that affected all apps except Sony's own video app which apparently used a private API. Plex did a work-around by transcoding to DD on the server side, Kodi did client side transcoding if you configured it correctly. However, af...

Re: Problem with E-AC3 audio tracks

If you are running VLC on an android TV box, the only way out is going to be SPDIF or the ARC return of the receiver HDMI which has the same bandwidth limitations. Kodi recently added the ability to transcode other multi-channel formats to DD 5.1 to make it possible to keep the surround sound. Could...

DD 5.1 or DTS on android tv?

I have a Sony TV with android and the VLC app and have not been able to get dolby digital or DTS passed through to my receiver with the optical or ARC connections - it only has 2-channel LPCM. Is there any way to enable the audio pass-through? Kodi and Plex work with DD 5.1, and (usually) re-encode ...

Re: VLC for iOS 2.4.1 and 2.5.0 can't yet support AC3 Audio- here's why

Never thought I would say this, but Kodi seems like a better player than the current vlc, particularly on IOS and over DLNA. They have come up with a way to side-load that is still convoluted and needs a mac with xcode7 but doesn't require a full local compile: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?ti...

Yes, because we are open source. Which is a violation of their promises to authorities of having FRAND licensing of their patents.
I thought FRAND was a requirement to license to everyone at reasonable terms. Is there no way to have an optional non-open source plugin with an ios app?

Re: VLC for iOS 2.4.1 and 2.5.0 can't yet support AC3 Audio- here's why

I understand why VLC doesn't provide licensing. What I don't understand is how Dolby can demand a separate payment for each application instead of just one for the device. Do blu-ray and tv manufactures pay extra for each application they add? Or do A/V receivers pay per input port? It seems very un...

What I don't understand is why you are expected to pay for a codec over and over again for each app separately on any piece of hardware. If you get a dvd/blu-ray player it comes with a license for the device, not just one disc publisher. Apple must take a cut of the action.

It's not the fault of Dolby that VideoLAN didn't license the codec properly...
Not all of the world considers software to be patentable. It is Apple and Dolby forcing US law interpretation on everyone.

I can understand not playing ac3 tracks, but... Why does vlc just error out when the content contains both aac and ac3 tracks? Why won't it play the aac and ignore the ac3?

Yes, what is the right way to encode to get a working ipad track? I thought the old way was to call it an m4v with aac tracks plus ac3 but those aren't playing now.

Re: UPNP server detection speed

There is really nothing to set. Your local DLNA server(s) should just show up when you click the local network option. However if you are using windows, you might be better off doing a file share and mapping it from the computer running vlc. With the ipad version that is not an option, so you have t...

Re: UPNP server detection speed

Now I'm confused too - your link showed a windows version of vlc, but I have been talking about the ios/ipad version. However it shouldn't matter. When you touch/click "local network" serviio should just show up (on either version) and then you should be able to navigate the content just l...

Re: Audio broken on iOS VLC 2.2.1

2.2.2 is working for me with mp4s with aac or ac3 audio (tz set to Winnipeg) either local or via DLNA. DTS even works locally but the directory listing seems to hang over DLNA if the file with DTS audio is present - don't know if that is a server (serviio) issue or vlc's.

Re: UPNP server detection speed

If serviio is running on the same LAN, all you should have to do in vlc is touch the 'local network' button and wait (and wait, sometimes several minutes) and the serviio icon should show up and when you touch that, you can navigate its contents. Do you have other clients working with serviio - or a...

video jukebox

I'm not sure if this belongs in vlc or if there is already a better way to handle it, but I'd like to have a straightforward way to get the effect of a video jukebox from a set of concert dvds where the songs are chapters - preferably without having to rip the chapters to individual files. Is there ...

Re: Batch Convert GUI

Handbrake is pretty good at this for typical video file conversions. You can use the GUI to set source/destination/options and the conversion is added to a queue that you can start processing while you continue adding jobs.

UPNP server detection speed

I've been using ios vlc with the Serviio DLNA server with fairly good results. However, it takes some random amount of time up to about 5 minutes after starting vlc to locate the servers on my network. Is there any way to speed this up? By contrast, the Mac/window versions locate the servers quickly...

ios vlc - smb://network connection

Could smb (windows file share) protocol be be added to the network options for the ios version? I think it is somewhat insane that the device doesn't provide network file access at the system level, but having in the app would be a useful workaround.

Re: VLC 2.2.0, iOS 6, crashes on UPnP access

I have been experimenting with different encoding options for content and the transcoding options on the Serviio DLNA server and noticed a case where if the content had DTS audio and was not transcoded for delivery, VLC would crash at the point where it should have displayed that entry's listing. Th...

vlc stream to dlna?

Since vlc can't directly act as a dlna/upnp server, are there any dlna servers that can read any of vlc's live stream formats and present whatever vlc is streaming to one or more dlna clients?
