Eclipse's 720p releases of Code Geass R2 stutter like crazy in VLC on Mac OS X even though MPlayer OSX and Quicktime (with Perian) both play them fine. This is on a 17" MacBook Pro with a 2.5 GHz Core 2 Duo (Penryn) and 2GB of RAM.

I've noticed that every time I use VLC, it leaves a certain amount of inactive RAM used even after I close the movie. Using VLC again results in even more RAM being marked as "inactive." After enough video files (or a really large one), if there is no "free RAM" left, rather than...

So I thought I'd revive this rather than make a new thread. Could VLC be made to properly support softsub-tracked video files with correct font/color display and all? MPlayer has managed it through use of the fontconfig library, and I figure it can't be that difficult to do something similar with VL...

If you're using Safari (which I suspect you are), it's a Safari thing, not a VLC thing. In Safari, in the menubar go to Safari > Preferences > General. Then uncheck "Open "safe" files after downloading."

Thanks, I suppose I would have to compile MPlayer with the vsfilter then? Will this compile on OSX? And does it need DirectShow to render the subs properly? because that is Windows only I think. I would also need instructions on how to compile it if it would work because I am a big noob. A great gu...
