It would be nice to manipulate the settings for the audio channels to a desired choice when outputting via SPDIF
This would be harder since one would have to support Dolby Live or DTS connect.
Ohh ok, shame, hopefully some guru decides to work on it :)

why has this not been added? Not everyone would need to use it, but there are tons f settings in other areas that never get touched and are still in VLC from long ago.. I really wanna make my rear speakers louder, they are already at maximum loudness (+6) via the amp but my front/center and subwoofe...

It won't work like in PS3, since currently VLC cannot bitstream DTS MA or Dolby TrueHD. As you say your amplifier has a optical input and can decode AC3+DTS so the only way is having a audio output on your laptop which has digital out, if it doesn't, then replace the soundcard, if that's not possib...

why cant this be added? i really wanna make my rear speakers more louder, they are already at maximum loudness via the amp but my front/center and subwoofer over power the back way too much even when they are lowered.
