I got the same error while compiling vlc for android.
What I did was just compile with a prevuis version of live555 and it works great.
I compiled with live.2011.07.15a.tar.gz

If you want to try VLC on Android you can always compile it yourself, but be aware it can take a while 
The current version is pretty stable btw.
