Gotta agree there.
I got to the point where I disabled the fullscreen controller altogether cause it bugged me that whenever I hit the mouse, a huge portion of my 1280x800 screen would be filled with the fullscreen controller.

Maybe you can try installing Candelair, rebooting, uninstall Candelair, rebooting??

deinstall Candelair Driver from Mac OS X Lion System Settings, reboot, done... helped for me
