thank you very much, i found a key shortcut that fits what i need. i wish duration would be longer but keeping the key pressed down keeps the osd active. so thank you!

When I have a video in fullscreen and I press control left or control right so skip ahead or back, it displays my time position ont he screen showing me where i am in the video/how long i have left but this osd only lasts less than a second, and I was wondering is there was a way to make that video ...

I too have the same issue, and I am running the latest version of vlc 1.1.11 on windows 7 32 bit sp1 on a toshiba a200 laptop.
I can get my subtitles to appear if i play a file in wmp but not when i play them with vlc, and i use vobsub to play them in wmp.
