I've just upgraded to 2.0.1 and the behaviour is the same as 2.0.0, that is to say you can hide it but it unhides itself the next time VLC is launched.

Which isn't really surprising as Apple do not care about DVD playback as optical spinning media has been de-prioritised in favour of streaming and downloads via iTunes.

There is no current version of VLC which works. Trying to use kexts from earlier versions of OS X with Lion *will* break your system be patient and wait for the problem to be investigated and fixed.

In the mean time use XBMC until VLC is fixed.

That particular runtime error means that the program has thrown an exception which for some reason has not been caught by the program.

I think there are multiple different bugs here.
