I record wildlife webcams which are frequently streaming on poor broadband connections from the middle of nowhere. Consequently the stream sometimes goes down and, if it doesn't automatically start up again quickly, VLC finalises the recording (thank you VLC, at least I haven't lost everything) but ...

It occurs with totally different streams. VLC seems to think I'm looking for an album. I must be doing something wrong but I enter the full mms or rtsp just like I did on the one occasion that it worked.

I take that back. It hasn't worked since, and others with Android phones say that it worked at first but then stopped. I've tried rtsp and mms streams, it gives me a "play" button for the site I got on 29 April (as if it's a default, or all it's got in its memory) but it's not responsive.

Should I be able to play an mms stream on my Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S III) the same as on my Windows 7 laptop? VLC invites me to enter an mms URL, but doesn't respond to it.

Just a note for information - as currently configured with the date/time marquee, VLC displays the current at the time of paying date/time on top of whatever video recording it plays, by no matter what recording software including itself. PS - I believe that VLC can convert to a different format (forgive me if wrong, I am drowning in info) but I don't have time for that, I have to get clips uploaded to RSPB PDQ

VLC records mms stream in asf format - but as far as I can see it can't play it back - I have to use KM Player. I would prefer not to have to have another player installed; besides, I find VLC more "navigable". If this is not possible, could VLC record mms in a format that it can play back?

I am using 2.0.1 (I saw you advise someone with a different problem to install a "nightly" so found them and did it myself - is there any particular "night" to choose?) - could you tell me how to fix it? I have a thread in the General Troubleshooting, no solution has been found.
