Thanks Nephole. Following your instructions the only options I get are " Disable ", " Automatic " or " Direct X ".....................Enable is not a choice??

Thanks for the advice Nephele but I cannot find how to " enable GPU accelerated decoding ". When I go to preferences> input & codecs I do not get the page as shown in Lotesdelere screen shot so I cannot enable?

Well, zoom takes a lot of CPU, so for 4K, this can be expected.

OK I accept that but other players manage it................can I zoom in in any other way rather than the interactive zoom,might that help??

Am amazed nobody can help with this! Whats the point in asking me for info then ignoring my reply? If VLC ( we can play anything ) cannot cope then perhaps I should look to zoomplayer, Km player & others that can? I actually think this forum is largely a waste of time seeing how few queries get ...

When I play a 4k video I find that I cannot use the interactive zoom function, video freezes. Works perfectly with other videos but not 4k ones.
Why is this, I have the latest version?
Is there any other way to zoom in ?

Was really hoping someone had an answer to this ??

Further to my above reply............I have now solved this to some extent by resetting preferences. However if I try to use the interactive zoom, a great feature of VLC, my favourite, then the picture just freezes. Can anyone help or advise on this?

Thanks but I have been right through that topic & cannot find this GPU thing. Don't know what I am doing wrong but I cannot get the page shown in the screenshot. So I still have to use other players for 4k video.

New to VLC & love its many options, however I am unable to play 4k video, doesn't start then very choppy. No problem with other players so nothing wrong with my system or CPU.
Would welcome any advice.

Thanks for trying John.........VLC player is sadly lacking in customer support Im afraid............I have gone back to using Zoomplayer.

Fully agree with your point,I have same problem. I find it amazing that a player that is so good in most respects lets itself down on this simple function.

Surely we are not alone in desiring this...........does nobody have an answer?

I have set it to direct x, I have clicked ' reset preferences, but still when I press Z it does not zoom in.........it just scrolls through the zoom options,double,half etc.
What am I doing wrong here ?

Thanks. When I press Z all I get is quarter, half, double listed in top left corner...........it does not zoom in.
Have been to tools- messages & put it up to 2............still not working?
Any further thoughts?

I have returned to VLC player after some months using other players but find, annoyingly, that its still not possible to use a simple ' zoom in ' option. If I want to increase the picture size on the screen I have to go into a complicated magnification function that seems to need resetting each time...
