S/pdif echo solved

Thanks to another thread here, this problem of many months is solved. Others didn't call it an echo, but their solution worked for me. For the record: settings > preferences > [x] advanced options > audio > audio module > { change from "default" to "win32 waveout extension output"...

s/pdif into Audigy2

A search of this forum produced no answer so far. Whenever "a/52 over s/pdif" is enabled (and that means I am pausing a mpeg playback that has a DD AC3 5.1 ch audio track), I get identification in my a/v receiver that it is receiving digital dolby 5.1 data. The sound, however, warbles with...

Sound Problem Warbling or Looping Echo into Audigy 2

Sounds like my probem too, when I choose Audio Device =a/52 over s/pdif. It does light up the 5.1 AC3 light on my receiver, but the sound is awful. If I choose "5.1" I get a stereo downmix that shows up as Pro-Logic on my receiver. Audigy is set up as a bit-perfect passthrough. This affect...

I just re-tested my setup (Windows P4 Gateway laptop with passthrough 44.1/48 soundcard via s/pdif into Sony receiver supporting AC3, DTS, and MultichannelMPEG decoding) using JRiver Media Jukebox as the source. I'm playing 44.1 DTS music files in 5.1. It works perfectly. In comparison with VLC, Med...

Well, it helps demonstrate that VLC is highly consistent in converting everything it sees to pcm stereo! So for now I play DTS WAV files on my hard drive with JRiver Media Jukebox, which is free. And I play ac3 files with PowerDVD, which isn't free, because JRiver won't play them. And I wait for VLC...

Loud sound effects and weak dialogue usually means that your center channel is missing or de-emphasized, or you're missing a physical speaker vs what your sound card thinks you have. If none of the above are true, there should be a surround mixer function that you can boost center channel. (I haven'...

dts multichannel

I'm glad you see that too, Sigmund. It would be useful at this point to know whether those who cannot play dts-cd files from hard drive using s/pdif (either because they get downmixed to pcm stereo, or they get noise, or they get silence) can burn the dts wav file to cd, and play it from cd in their...

SPDIF with AC97

Why do DVD's play OK? Well this answer won't sound consistent with what you say, but based on my hanging out in alt.audio.dts for a couple of years, if your sound card is playing dvd's it supports 48000 sample rate. All "hardware" dvd players are cd-audio compatible, so it supports 44100 t...

SPDIF with AC97

I believe we are dealing with the same problem. Please see my topic "Forcing S/PDIF Out". The DTS wav files on your hard drive are probably sampled at 44,100 hz which is the CD sample frequency. When your sound card is dealing with a physical DVD, it is reading 48000hz sample rate whether ...

Forcing S/PDIF Out

Thanks for the reply. What I am experiencing is that the player sends out undecoded output only when it sees that s/pdif is "available". In other words, if I select from control panel my inboard sound card, which supports s/pdif, I will get the digital output. Unfortunately, this card re-s...

Forcing S/PDIF Out

I didn't find the answer in these forums so far...I want to send un-decoded multichannel audio to my surround sound receiver, ideally both 48000kbps AC3 and 44100kbps DTS-CD data streams. The problem seems to be that my pass-through sound card is on a USB port, and VLC player can't see it. It decode...
