I don't know what you mean by "older version" here. VLC has had the same GLX FB requirements as early as version 1.0.0-test1.

Are you sure about that? Downgrading from VLC 2.0.3 to VLC 2.0.1 resolve the problem.

yum downgrade vlc vlc-core

Look's like GLX output in VLC media player 2.0.3 is broken.

What could you reccomend to ensure the outputs stay in sync?

Many VLC clients can synchronize from one source. I hear about this future but newer try/explore it.

VLC is unable to open the MRL 'rtsp://129.21.120.99:5544/my_stream'. Check the log for details.

I got error like this when I have no route for multicast in my operation system. Try to add route for multicast if you have not it yet.
