I've been trying to launch a second VLC instance above the first one, but launching it from RC doesn't works, and by adding a extra Telnet interface, and using PHP to send the "control ch2 play" command, fails too.

Currently I'm not doing transcoding, local playback only and control through RC interface (Debian Squeeze, GNOME desktop). Some marquees are placed around the video. At this point I can edit the marquee's content through RC interface, however, I'm looking for ways to put a background behind the marq...
