i'm not trying to fix an earlier unofficial install. I recently redid my partition, and since then at the very least have ONLY installed from VLC's main website. I don't know where you're getting the idea that I had an unofficial install from, but that is not the case.

Hello, I updated my VLC player a while ago and encountered an unusual problem. When I updated, it associated ALL files with VLC. More specifically, it associated all shortcuts with VLC, and some other file types as well... Any shortcuts that I had on my start bar, or under start/all programs are ass...
