Same problem for me. Now with "VLC-2.1.0-20121229-0002 nightly" random access is OK (no more long searches or getting stuck) but playback is jerky.
So what would be the safest way to mux today for stability in the future ? Keep MKVToolnix 5.8 or switch to 5.9 ?

I regret VLC 2 seems less fault tolerant, because VLC 1 or mkvmerge or my standalone player do not complain about these files and play them perfectly.

Hi, usually when I played a video with a 6 channel track I could choose between stereo and 5.1 output in the audio menu. But until recently I only have the stereo option, both on VLC 1.1.11 and VLC 2.0.3.
(I have checked there are 6 channels with Mediainfo and Audacity)

L'encodage est celui de la TNT qui a toujours très bien marché, le muxage c'est fait par par mkvtoolnix qui a quand même fait ses preuves. C'est même lisible par mon mediastreamer! Il y a eu une régression au passage à la 2.x de VLC. Peut-être c'est juste un "tag" à changer dans un editeur...

Most of all I forgot to mention that before remuxing into MKV, VLC plays the video very well when it's still in the .ts transport stream.

I doubt that's the issue because it happens even with 30% CPU load, and disappears if EAC3 is reencoded (which I would like to avoid).

Yes, I would say 1080i since Mediainfo or even VLC say 50fps. But again my CPU load doesn't go above 55%. So I guess I just wait for a VLC update ?

Here is an example generated by Avidemux, but behaviour is the same once remuxed with MKVToolnix. It gives bugs with VLC, but plays fine with WMP9 (ffdshow & Haali media splitter icons showing in the taskbar)

If it can help an Avidemux developper once told me: "actually vlc is producing them [the jitters] when increasing its PTS delay".

A terrible truth: HD MKVs (I only have h.264 1080p files) play jerky (saccadé) with VLC but play fine with a basic Windows Media Player 9!
