Almost all drives which are less than about two years old, are RPC2-drives. You can flash the firmware to a RPC1 replacement if it is available, but note that this might be illegal in your country and voids the warranty of your drive. I'm in Spain, but half my DVDs have come from Asia or N. America...

What is a RPC2 drive?

If you have an old DVD drive, VLC will work for all your DVDs. If you have a RPC2 drive, VLC won't (whatever the OS). Thanks for your reply. I'm sorry, I don't know what an RPC2 drive is.
