Don't know about windows, but with Linux you type an '&' after the command and the thing keeps running until you close it. But... Why can't you simply leave it running? Seems like the issue here is more getting it to play in the background rather than getting it to play after it has been closed?...

Hi, I have a video which is only in english. I would like to be able to create subtitles for it (as dubbing is a LOT of work). How can I do this with VLC, please? I am not talking about voice recognition and/or automatic translation, I have yet to find an automatic translator which doesn't talk gibb...
