According to GSpot, (which can successfully preview the file), type is MPEG-1 and it uses the MPEG1_Payload codec.

I have the same problem and turning the overlay video output off has not worked. My computer is a 2.0 GHz Toshiba laptop with 1 GB of ram and 128 MB of Nvidia video memory, resolution 1440x900 in 32 bit colour. It's 6 months old so I don't think any drivers are out of date.
