first i did not know that VLC can do the conversion. 2nd how do i use VLC to do this conversion, is there a manual?

Hi,
I have five DAT files which contain both audio and video it plays fine in VLC player. I want to capture the audio from these DAT files as MP3 or WAVE and play it in my car while i drive. Is there a way to capture the audio from these files using the VLC player?
