Is there an option in vlc that will let me select which audio device to output to? I have a usb headset that I only like to use for voip calls, and I'd rather not have to unplug them to use vlc over my speakers. Have you tried the set "Enqueue items to playlist when in one instance mode" did it have any effect on the problem? I believe that what you are describing could very well be considered a bug, because in the default configuration the problem would not occur. Thus it was probably overlooked...
