Running 3.0.8 on Mac OS X Mojave 10.14.6 and having issues with playing .mkv file..

Not sure if its specific yet, but usually if a reverse and re-play same part its ok... However, it only occurs when opening fresh and playback.

update: Not Apple updates. Installed OS X 10.12.6 from scratch. no security updates applies, just installed VLC 3.0.3 and got same issue when playing discs.

If I disable Video Output in VLC >> Preferences, and start playback, i get audio just fine, but flicking videi. Even VLC 3.0.2 has issues,,,, I traced it down to DVD's... not just the burnt dvd, but even commercial DVD's display black screen and beach ball

MP4's play fine however.

Installed VLC 3.0.3 and noting but trouble, when trying to play DVD i get beachballs and must force quit, until i delete all related preferences files in /Cache and /Library in home folder. Another alternative way is install Handbrake Libdvdcss to rip DVD for playing on computer. This, i do not get, as if VLC can play copy protected media then it the file comes with the media player, otherwise u won't not be able to play copy protected media right ?, why do u need separate libdvdcss ?...

I know when streaming with VLC, you can add to playlist or use existing, however on the client u can type exact filename which doesn't really make sense..in a playlist scenario.. What's the reason why VLC can't play the same Region DVD (retail), but DVD player app works just fine ?

All i get in VlC is an exclamation mark when attempting to play.. These are all Region 4 Discs, and play perfectly fine with DVD player app.

Just a general question. when playing DVD's in VLC, I think it may also affect video files too, the aspect ratio of the screen changes to and from, then back again, all before playback...

Is this due to 'lock aspect ratio' option being checked?
