Browser plugins are a dying breed, with the focus shifting towards HTML5 friendly technologies. You should really focus on video types supported by the HTML5 'video' tag. As far as I am aware there is no Chromecast or AirPlay support provided by the VLC application.

You may be able to look at using HandBrake (free & open source), for now, for conversion. I don't have a better answer at the moment.

What format are the videos in? Are they playing from an internal or external drive? Is this a recent issue?

@Lay look in the 'window' menu -> messages. Did you reset the preferences in VLC? What language are you trying to display the subtitles in? What font is being specified for the subtitles, in the preferences?

Not in 2.2.4. You can toggle between the values by clicking on the time value. There are many things that the developers would love to address, but you need to remember that they are team of volunteers that are not getting paid for the time they spend providing a free product. They do what they can....

Do any errors appear in VLC's message window ('window' menu -> messages...), if there are please could you share the message log.

Could you see if the VLC message log indicates any error or warnings related to this? I don't have access to these OS versions to check. Also, see if reseting the preferences help?

I don't know enough about the inner workings of VLC (I am not a developer on the project), but I suspect that the data is being read faster than the TV can consume it, so to keep things in sync buffered data is dropped.

Your best bet is using Subler (free & open source) to tweak the values of your video (make sure to back up your video first, just in case).

How large is the downloaded disk image (it should be 37.4 MB)? What browser are you downloading with?
