In old versions of VLC I could just hit Cmd+Q while watching a video, and the next time I opened the file it would continue playback. Does anyone have any ideas on this? How do other people move VLC between Spaces on a Mac while a video is loaded? Or am I the only one that ever wants to do this?

Preferences > Show All

On the left panel make sure Input / Codecs is selected. Scroll down in the right panel until you get to the Advanced section. All of the default caching in here is set to 300ms. I changed all of them to 10000ms (10s) and the skipping problem went away.
