It also remembers where you stopped viewing a video and returns to that location the next time you open the video.

All is well. Handbrake successfully did the conversion to mp4 and I'm able to see the English subtitles for this Dutch film Het Meisje met het Rode Haar.
I converted VIDEO_TS to mp4 using VLC 2.1.5, and it won't play. It has no properties, and the duration displayed is 0:00 VIDEO_TS plays fine, but subtitles won't display beyond the first one.
