Why use divx 3 instead of xvid when transcodeing?

Why is there no xvid codec support for transcoding? I mean xvid gives much better quality than div3 and still it's not nearly as resource hungry as h264. From what I understand ffmpeg has support for encoding xvid so vlc should be able to have it too.

Can't get it to configure using mingw32

I can't compile using mingw32. :( I've followed the instructions here: http://developers.videolan.org/vlc/msys-compile.txt but when i run configure --prefix=/usr/win32 it tells me that it can't find ffmpeg/avcodec.h but I've looked and the file is in usr/win32/include/ffmpeg. Can someone please help...

What's the easiest way to compile the activex?

I want to change a few small things in the final 0.8.6 version of the activex. What is the easiest way to compile the activex? I tried using Mingw32 but didn't get it to work.

Thanks

If I used Tappen's .Net user control that was recently released here at forums would that violate the GPL? Like the activex wouldn't it qualify as being 2 different programs? I'd rather not use the acitvex as I find it a bit unstable under .Net.

Thanks

Thanks for the fast response.

But how is using libvlc directly different from using the axtivex? Wouldn't it be a violation too?

GPL Violation

I'm working on a media player that uses libvlc.dll for video playback and it uses the bass library for music. I plan to make the player open source but the problem is that the bass library is closed source. This means not all parts of the player will be open source. My question is: does this violate...

Can anyone explain to me what SAP is?

I've read in the howto's and I've searched on the forums but I can't figure out what SAP is.

I would appreciate if someone could explain it to me.
