xtophe. First of all I am pretty sure the OP meant AirPort Express, and not Extreme. AirTunes allow you to stream Apple Lossless audio over WLAN to an AirPort Express. From which you can connect any powered speakers, or directly to you audio rig. Read more here: http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/...

I care. I can playback h.264 video through network shares over 100MBit cat6, but not over 802.11g wifi. It would be awesome if I could use my Iomega StorCenter's built-in UPnP for this purpose. There are only very few ppl who care about UPnP. 2 attempts have been made at integrating it into VLC. Both unsuccessfull (at least for release quality). One of the biggest problems is what XML engine is to be used. Some are VERY big. I would dare to say TOO big to distribute with VLC. expat seems ...

UPNP I'm I the only one that cares

Just curious... I'm I the only one that is really interested about UPNP on the mac os . Seems like there is very little discussion on it. There is exactly 0 commercial upnp clients for OS x. And the upnp module in videolan seems broken. (tried to make it work with os x, very unstable) We are working...

Its not so easy

This is going to happen if and only if someone contributes support for it. Using the cyberlink upnp stack with vlc is not easy, I know I've tried it with little success. I could bring up a list of my devices and content some of the time, and at others the sax parser just plain crashed. Although I s...

Re: awesome!

awesome! I can't wait until there's a multi-platform (including OS X) upnp browser / renderer. VLC would be a very good for displaying the streamed content. I'd also like very much to be able to just copy the files onto my computer... --simon The project is moving along , there was an initial probl...

upnp for osx revisited

After reviewing the videolan mail-lists and trying to compile the upnp module for vlc I've come to the conclusion that adding a upnp module vlc would just be bloatware. It could impact negatively on the performance of vlc. I now understand why there is a reluctance by the developers to do this. With...

upnp patch, I think its hopeless.

Patches are welcome :) Its not that we've haven, been trying... no fault of the vlc development team, vlc is about the best cross platform video player I have seen. But the upnp module is just to unstable, I blame it more on the xmlparser but none the less after spending many hours compiling from s...

What is the status of the Bonjour Module for vlc?

Does Videolan for os x (8.05 or any of the nightly trunks) support dns-sd, I see there is a Bonjour discovery module , but it looks like it is currently only working on Linux. What is the status of the project? Also some basic questions about the current implementation. What service types does the m...

reinventing the wheel is not always the best first approach

I'm the new VLC forum troll... someone answer me....!! Its hard to say what gets responses in forums, maybe people are put off by long winded posts, I don't know.. but I ussually try to be help when I can. Why reinvent the wheel, there are at least half a dozen solutions that will work for most of ...

Re: well its close!

--enable-wxwindows

Does that work on the mac?
short answer: no

.
Yes its starting to look kind of hopeless.
Allthough the newest version is supposed to be more compatable and there is a macosx version they say works with tiger.
Haven't tried that yet.

That's just a warning. and i'm told it compile fine. yes it does, but there are other problems with the makefile. for one thing it seems to have trouble making the vlc.app bundle, it keeps looking for a vlc_bundle folder that never gets created. Wxwidgets fails to compile, errors with wxnotebook, I...

Well, I guess I'm the only one hacking around with this stuff, and talking just to myself apparently. does no one see the need for upnp on the mac. oh.. well. The second compile went as the first, I think the plugin just doesn't work, I attempted to go with the wxwindows version but that wouldn't co...

well its close!

You were correct, those were just warnings, the build completed fine, all the normal stuff (ie. that you would see in an official release seemed to work) The Upnp plugin which I really did the whole thing for has issues, the playlist shows my upnp servers (tversity and twonkeyvision) but when I clic...

you can ignore the warnings. T.
Thanks for the reply it was around midnight when I got the contrib builds straightened out and did the configure, so I can't do the compile until after work, i'm excited to see if it works.

why not the prebuilt

The prebuilt os x builds both the release and the nightly builds do not include support for upnp. Only in the linux version. A lot of folks want this , but we are told there are higher priorites. So I decided to give it a try, looks like I'm pretty close except for this one issue, I am not even sure...

./configure problem, missing cocoua header??

I'm not new to development, use solaris at work, but new to vlc on osx. When I try to configure vlc using a subversion snapshot I get the following warning. Since I'm using a mac and want the cocoa interface I consider this a "showstopper". I'm hoping someone has encountered this and can e...

Why are you going through all this additional work just to stream dvd content around your network. If I understand you correctly the content is either already on dvd or in dvd ready mpeg content. If the content is on dvd just rip it to the harddrive as a vob, if its already in mpeg you really need t...

help: trying to compile vlc (to get upnp working) problems

I'm running into multiple issues trying to compile vlc on a mac g4 with os 10.4 My current problem seems to be that .configure can't find xercesc, I have both xercesc 2.7 and the xerces.framework on the machine but apparently the configure script is looking for the src directory. I've tried putting ...

I'm not crazy about this cyberlink code, I wonder if it would be better maybe to create a version of cidero which would pass the upnp link to videolan. This would be similar to what nero showtime does. To play local content it would not have to be a true dlna renderer. Just some thoughts. Any one ha...
