Re: VLC opens to logo with no way to operate the app?

Try this: Settings -> Apps -> VLC -> Storage Then Clear Cache and Clear Data. I am trying to install VLC for Chrome OS. I have followed the advice on the VLC site and found the extension on the Chrome Web Store. Installed fine but when launched it provides a white window with an VLC logo - but no m...

Re: Convert mp4 to what?

I experimented by using VLC to convert the files to various formats but the results were random, unrepeatable and frustrating.
So invested in an upgrade to V4 of VideoReDo which edits downloaded mp4 files effortlessly.

Re: GUI and Batch Conversion give different results

Dear VLC-help, Thanks for that - Yes substituting ':file' for ':standard' does make an output file that I can now edit with Windows Movie Maker so thats a big step forward. Still get thousands of 'vbv buffer overflow errors though. But how did you know about :file? - the help documentation I have fr...

GUI and Batch Conversion give different results

If I convert an mp4 video downloaded from YouTube using the VLC GUI I get a usuable file. VLC displays the parameters used as: sout=#transcode{vcodec=WMV2,vb=2000,scale=1,acodec=wma2,ab=128,channels=2,samplerate=44100}:file{dst='E:\Delete\TestTarget\blue light gui wmv2 wma2.asf'} I can display the r...

Convert mp4 to what?

I have mp4 files but no software to edit them. But I do have VideoRedo, Windows Movie Maker and Adobe Premier Elements. So the obvious thing is to use VideoLan to convert the mp4 files to something one of the above can edit. So that means converting to WMV or mpg or AVI. Which conversion is likely t...

Can You See What is Wrong with this Conversion Command?

I am trying to take .ts files which contain only an audio stream and create .mp3 files. The following command line produces output .mp3 files of zero length. sVLCparams = """C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe"" -I dummy -vvv " & cFOL & sFileName &_ "...

Cant Create Audio File From MP4

I cannot use VLC to convert my mp4 video files to simple audio files. I follow the Media/Convert wizard to convert to mp3, flac or aac but in each case generate an output file the same size as the input video file. Conversion to mp3 gives a .ps file (does not play if I rename it to .mp3) Conversion ...

Re: What Containers Best for Youtube > WMP?

The outcome of this post is that I have found that video files do not support tags nor 'ratings' hence there is little advantage in using WMP with its auto playlists and ratings. So I use VideoLan and that can play mp4 files very well. But I still miss the auto playlists and ratings! Thanks everyone...

Re: What Containers Best for Youtube > WMP?

Thanks VLC_help. Why do you recommend converting to WMV+WMA asf files?

Re: What Containers Best for Youtube > WMP?

Thanks VLC-help, but I have explored that the Haali route and found that the reviews of Haali Splitter rate it poorly - Windows crashes, cannot uninstall, etc. So I am trying to avoid that route. Also when installed it becomes the default splitter for mp4 files, so taking over from VLCs internal spl...

What Containers Best for Youtube > WMP?

I am using VLC to convert videos downloaded from Youtube to play in Windows Media Player and am not sure what container would be best. The options for downloading are mpg and flv. WMP, out of the box, will play .asf .wmv and .avi containers. I have installed ffdshow so it will also play .mpg files b...

Re: Command Line File Conversion Not Adding Video Stream

Experimenting has shown the the problem is the 'vcodec=mpeg1' statement. 'mpeg1' is not a valid parameter. If I use mp2v then it works fine.

Re: Command Line File Conversion Not Adding Video Stream

Thanks VLC Help but if I change the muxing to PS I get the same problem. More detailed examination of the log shows that everything works well, the input container is successfully opened, both video decoder and encoders found, then the key lines: [OxiOaOdB4] main mux debug: adding a new input [OxlOa...

Command Line File Conversion Not Adding Video Stream

I used the example given on this site to create a batch job to convert .mp4 files downloaded from YouTube into .mpg files that Windows Media Player 11 can play. The command line is: CALL "C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc" -I dummy -vvv %1 --sout=#transcode{vcodec=mpeg1,vb=1024,acodec=mpga...
